Sulfadoxine is a sulfonamide and can be absorbed systemically. Sulfonamides can produce severe, possibly fatal, reactions such as toxic epidermal necrolysis and Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
Fansidar is sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine (this combination is almost always prescribed).
